Microsoft has been busy attempting to create new tools that will help protect your computer from spyware, adware, and other unintended installations, services, internet explorer extensions, run-at-start items, etc.
Two products I feel everyone should be using are:
- Windows Defender (http://www.microsoft.com/defender/). This tool will monitor installations and changes to key registry areas. So if you dont want that yahoo toolbar installed, you can ‘block’ it in the event the software you are installing doesnt give you a choice.
- Microsoft Security Baseline Analyzer 2 (http://www.microsoft.com/mbsa). This tool will download a list of all patches for all of their software and then compare it to what you have installed on your system. This should be run a few times a year to make sure you are up to date.
Good luck, and as always, if you have questions, give me a buzz on IM.
Just a quick note, I am fine, believer is in North Carolina, and our neighborhood seems fine for now…
